Frequently asked questions

Is the money real?

Yes. You hold the actual dollars, wherever you already keep them. Opifera is the ledger and the lesson. Nothing moves without you.

Why are the interest rates so high?

Because you are the bank, the rate is a teaching lever, not a cost. A big rate on a small balance is what makes compounding visible to a child. The full explanation lives next to the rate controls.

How much time does this take?

The sit-down today takes about five minutes. After that, a few minutes at your regular check-in is plenty.

What are the two accounts inside?

Your kid's little bank has two accounts. Spending works like the checking account, ready to use anytime. Savings is where the snowball grows and earns the real interest.

What ages is Opifera for?

Elementary kids, roughly ages 5 to 11. Starting early matters: research from the University of Cambridge (Whitebread and Bingham, 2013) found children's core money habits are largely set by around age seven, and the earlier the start, the longer the hill.

Can both parents use it?

Yes. One parent opens the family, then invites the other with a link. Both see the same kids and the same ledgers, and both can do everything.

What does it cost?

Nothing. Opifera is free. If that ever changes, existing families will hear about it from me directly, long before anything is charged.

How do kids sign in?

With a username and a short PIN that you create. Kids have no email address on file. They can watch their money grow, set goals, and accept CD offers you set up, but everything structural stays in parent hands.

What is a CD, in Opifera?

A certificate of deposit, the same idea grown-up banks offer. A kid locks part of their savings away for a stretch of time and gets it back with a bonus at the end. It is a deal about patience, and patience is what makes snowballs big.
